Why Nepali Cottage

Small cottages, big-hearted hosts

We are not an aggregator of listings. We are a network of homes we have visited, stayed in, and vouched for.

  • Hand-picked cottages

Every home in our collection is visited, stayed in and re-checked by our team at least once a year before it joins the network.

  • Stay with host families

Breakfast on the veranda, stories by the fire, and a genuine welcome in Newari, Gurung, Tamang and Tharu households.

  • Farm-to-table meals

Meals come from the family garden - seasonal, organic and cooked the traditional way. Tell us your dietary needs and hosts adapt.

  • Verified & supported

Every host is vetted and trained, and our Kathmandu office is on call 24/7 throughout your stay.

  • Direct booking, best rate

Book on our site for the best rate. With no OTA commissions, more of your money stays in the village.

  • Travel that gives back

A share of every stay funds village projects - drinking water lines, school repairs, solar lighting - chosen by the community itself.

Signature stays

Six cottages we would book again tomorrow

A taste of the collection. Every stay includes breakfast, and most include dinner with the host family.

Community tourism, done properly

Tourism is recovering. Let's rebuild it well.

Nepal welcomed back travelers at near pre-pandemic levels in 2025, and the quiet boom now is in community stays - visitors who want to meet the family, not just the monument. We built Nepali Cottage for exactly that traveler.

  • Every stay is vetted in person by our team
  • Hosts are trained and paid fair, direct rates
  • A share of each booking funds community-chosen projects
  • Small groups and slow travel, never crowds

Guest stories

They came for the views. They stayed for the welcome.

We arrived as guests and left as family. Maya taught us to make gundruk, and her mother insisted we take pickles for the road.
Sarah WhitfieldLondon - Rice Terrace Cottage, Banepa
The most genuine travel experience we have had in two decades of visiting Asia. The cottage was spotless and the lake was five minutes away.
Dieter BraunBerlin - Lakeside Garden Cottage, Pokhara
Our kids still talk about the rooftop sunset and the buffalo milk tea. Booking direct meant the hosts got every rupee.

Good questions

Before you book

Are the cottages really verified?

Yes. Every home in the collection is visited, stayed in and re-checked by a member of our team at least once a year. We publish the host's name, village and check-in notes on every stay page.

What is included in the nightly rate?

Breakfast and all taxes are always included. Most cottages include dinner with the host family; ridge and jungle stays include all meals. Full details are on each stay page and in your booking confirmation.

How do I book?

Send a booking request with your dates and guest count. We reply within 24 hours with availability and a confirmed rate, then you pay by eSewa, Khalti, bank transfer or card. No payment is taken until a host confirms your dates.

What is your cancellation policy?

Free cancellation up to 7 days before arrival, and a 50% refund between 3 and 7 days out. [CLIENT-COPY: confirm final cancellation policy wording]

Do hosts speak English?

Most of our hosts speak working English, and we match you with households where you will be comfortable. For anything complex, our Kathmandu team translates on a phone call - just ask.

How does my stay help the community?

Hosts receive fair, direct rates - no platform commission. Beyond that, a share of every booking goes into a village fund that communities vote to spend on projects like water lines, school repairs and solar lighting.
